Saturday, 31 December 2016

Off to spend my NYE with some lovely people, drinking lovely wine and eating lovely food, having lovely conversation.

Friday, 30 December 2016

Had my first facial in over 5 years today.

It. Was. Bliss.

Thursday, 29 December 2016

And now Debbie Reynolds. As a fan of 'Postcards from the Edge', I won't say I didn't appreciate the dark irony of her dying one day after her daughter... but still. So sad. So many good people lost this year.

Wednesday, 28 December 2016

My earliest role model. From Princess to General - she taught me more than I could ever possibly articulate.

RIP Carrie Fisher. And thank you.

Tuesday, 27 December 2016

Really need to work out what I'm going to do with the old sofa before the new one arrives tomorrow... charities won't collect until late January! Who do I know with a truck... 🤔

Monday, 26 December 2016

And now George Michael.

2016 you can just fuck right off, quite frankly.

Sunday, 25 December 2016

Well that's going to go down as possibly the worst Christmas Day in living memory.

But I suppose that's consistent with the latter part of 2016, which has been (to quote my sis) "c***ingly disappointing".

Saturday, 24 December 2016

This year it's going to take a bucketload of patience and a truckload of wine to make it through Christmas without losing my mind.

Friday, 23 December 2016

Tried a floatation tank for the first time today. Not quite sure it's for me, but we'll see. I've booked a package of 3 sessions, so I have to give it at least two more tries.

Thursday, 22 December 2016

Can we just be done with Christmas already? It's going to be hideous and I'd rather just sleep for a week thanks very much.

Tuesday, 20 December 2016

Upside of now having a car: can buy heavy stuff at the grocery store and not have to wonder how I'm going to lug it all home.

Downside of now having a car: forking out nearly $1k during the week prior to Christmas for a roadworthy check and transfer of interstate registration.

Monday, 19 December 2016

Choosing subjects for next year and realise I've chosen a children's literature subject and a subject on serial killers. Let's hope no future employer ever needs to see my academic transcript.

Sunday, 18 December 2016

Literally cannot deal with the nine kinds of cray right now. However, this is my life philosophy, so I'm just getting on with it...

Saturday, 17 December 2016

8 hours driving from Radelaide to Ballarat, followed by more unpacking of LB's new digs, followed by a late-night supermarket run.

Friday, 16 December 2016

Thursday, 15 December 2016

The house is empty. The shed is cleared. The one zillion pot plants are gone.

All that's left is to load my car with the last few bits in the morning and then it's sayonara to my childhood home.

Not. Even. Remotely. Emotional.

WTF is wrong with me?!?

Wednesday, 14 December 2016

My chosen family are awesome. Every single one of them.

Even the crazy puppy.

Tuesday, 13 December 2016

An enormous skip (9 cubic metres) filled to the brim with crap. We're almost there... almost.

Monday, 12 December 2016

Took a bit of necessary time out today for a beach walk with the puppy, a manicure and a massage.

Sunday, 11 December 2016

So ahead of target in the clean up... although Brutha's method (keep it) vs my method (chuck it all) is a delicate negotiation.

Saturday, 10 December 2016

Ballarat > Adelaide (repack truck) > Littlehampton.

On the upside, I get to sleep in a bunk bed for the first time in decades.

Friday, 9 December 2016

Adelaide > Ballarat > Melbourne > Ballarat.

So much driving. So much unpacking. So much tiredness.

Thursday, 8 December 2016

Last night sleeping in the family home for LB, Brutha and me. Big day ahead moving her back to her hometown.

Wednesday, 7 December 2016

Meltdowns ahoy... and not from me.

Tuesday, 6 December 2016

Last available night to chuck shit out before LB comes home to spend the last two nights in her house of 46 years. 1am finish it is.

Monday, 5 December 2016

Two things I desperately hope I do not inherit from my grandmother and mother:

1. Hoarding tendencies

2. Psychosis

What do you think are my chances?!

Sunday, 4 December 2016

We've had to devise a nickname for all the boxes and bin bags destined for the skip, so LB doesn't catch on that we're chucking a fairly high percentage of her crap.

James suggested Kanga, since it's going in the skip...

Saturday, 3 December 2016

Fairly certain LB is nominating me for shittiest daughter of the year award purely because I refuse to allow her to take more than 12 pairs of slacks to Ballarat with her (half of which don't fit her anyway due to her rapid weight loss).

Friday, 2 December 2016

My godfather has the patience of a saint. He's also deaf as a post, which means he can't hear most of LB's crazed ramblings...

Thursday, 1 December 2016

Almost lost my grandmother's eternity ring on the train from Melbs to Warrnambool... that would have been an auspicious start to what is bound to be a hellish two weeks.

Wednesday, 30 November 2016

New Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D day.

Also Drunk History with Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Tuesday, 29 November 2016

When you have a guest visiting from New York, it's a great excuse to go to Hellenic Republic for their saganaki with peppered figs and spanakopita.

Mmmmmm. Greek food. So good.

Monday, 28 November 2016

Made a batch of rugelach whilst drinking a glass of wine whilst listening to LB ramble for an hour on the phone.

Multitasking at its finest.

Sunday, 27 November 2016

House: cleaned.
Laundry: washed, dried and put away.
Plants: pruned and watered.
Trunk: painted.
Furniture: rearranged to make space for what I need to haul over from Radders.
Suitcase: ...

Shit. Knew there was something else I had to do.

Saturday, 26 November 2016

Aaaaaand it's back to the hospital for LB, who really seems intent on following the words of Dylan Thomas to the letter... not that she even knows (or cares) who he was.

Friday, 25 November 2016

Happy Birthday to my Brutha, who's been patiently letting me rage at the world for 45 years... you're the greatest.

Thursday, 24 November 2016

First year since I've been living in this house that I haven't done my annual Thanksgiving friends dinner... just too much going on right now. I am thankful for all my wonderful friends though!

Wednesday, 23 November 2016

How is it only Wednesday? This week is draaaaaaagggggging.

Tuesday, 22 November 2016

Withdrew from this trimester's uni subject tonight, hours before the census deadline.

Totally bummed, but it actually turns out that contrary to my long-held belief, I'm not superwoman and I can't juggle work, reapply for my job, move my mother from her home of 45 years in SA into a nursing home in Victoria, oversee the sale of her house, manage her financial affairs, have a life, manage more than 3 hours of sleep a night AND study at the same time.

So anyway...

Monday, 21 November 2016

I'd say Alec Baldwin's got at least 4 years of regular weekend employment ahead of him...

Also, I want Jason Sudeikis back to do a JoeBama memes skit before Jan 20. Please and thank you.

Sunday, 20 November 2016

10pm on Sunday and I've done ZERO study this weekend. I've ironed a bunch of clothes though, so I won't have that "shit, I wanted to wear that today but I haven't got time to iron it" dilemma this week. But still. NO. STUDY.

Saturday, 19 November 2016

When your bestie sends you this text message:

"OK so I got Enver to hold a t-shirt I'm sending you for Christmas. You can sleep in it - his DNA is on it."

Then sends you this picture:

I really do have the most awesome friends.

NB: said bestie is at Supanova this weekend and got to meet Enver Gjokaj, who I've had a mad crush on since Dollhouse.

Friday, 18 November 2016

It's been a long week and I have zero energy to do anything except lounge on the sofa and flick between Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Mean Girls.

Lame, huh?

Thursday, 17 November 2016

New shoes + walking 9kms = blisters galore. Yowzers.

Wednesday, 16 November 2016

Actually made it to my lecture for the first time in three weeks. Now I just have to smash out that essay before I go to Adelaide. And read a bunch more books.

Tuesday, 15 November 2016

Juggling full-time work, part-time study and moving an elderly mother from her home of 45 years into new accommodation is a hell of a task.

Thank god I don't have kids... they wouldn't get fed.

Monday, 14 November 2016

Thank god I made the pastry last night... otherwise I'd still be baking at midnight.

Sunday, 13 November 2016

Well that was a hell of a day. Progress was made though, which is encouraging.

Saturday, 12 November 2016

I could take the quiz for a second time and try and improve my score of 85%, but quite frankly, I don't have time and I cannot be arsed.

Friday, 11 November 2016

Still not coping with the thought of a tangerine twit in charge of the nuclear codes.

The only real, legit belly laugh I've had since the election results came courtesy of that silver fox Joe Biden. Damn but I'm gonna miss him.

Thursday, 10 November 2016

I'm STILL with her. I'll always be with her.

Wednesday, 9 November 2016

My heart is broken.

Tuesday, 8 November 2016

Monday, 7 November 2016

For the next three days, this is all I've got.

Choose love, not fear, America.

Sunday, 6 November 2016

Well that was a gut-wrenching two-and-a-quarter hours.

Saturday, 5 November 2016

Three of the five books on the required reading list this semester, READ. And it's only the second week in.

On. Track.

Friday, 4 November 2016

Daily conversations with my mother in her current state got me like...

Thursday, 3 November 2016

The industry I work in is really so very tiny. It's two degrees of separation everywhere I look.

Wednesday, 2 November 2016

Refer yesterday's post and add...

Tuesday, 1 November 2016

First day back at work got me like...

Monday, 31 October 2016

Well that was an absolutely exhausting long weekend. Thank god I have some awesome friends in my support network or you'd find me in a fetal position sucking my thumb right about now.

Saturday, 29 October 2016

I swear the 'groom' cake topper at my friends' parents' 50th wedding anniversary party looked just like Donald Trump.

Friday, 28 October 2016

Five long, challenging hours. Thank god I had a fancy dinner to look forward to at the end of it.

Thursday, 27 October 2016

Wednesday, 26 October 2016

What if all the murders in Murder She Wrote were actually committed by Jessica Fletcher b/c she was testing out plot ideas for her novels?

(Otherwise known as "Story Ideas I Have When I'm In A Crime Fiction Lecture At Uni")

Tuesday, 25 October 2016

One step forward, two steps back. It's like living in a freaking Paula Abdul video right now.

Sunday, 23 October 2016

Even rainy Sundays are awesome when you're wandering around the Heide.

Saturday, 22 October 2016

So nice to finally see our second year Theatre students strut their stuff. Definitely some ones to watch!

Friday, 21 October 2016

An evening with the National Theatre of Scotland's foul-mouthed Our Ladies of Perpetual Succour. Just brilliant. Can't get ELO out of my head now though.

Thursday, 20 October 2016

The downside of having an office in the Music building is that twice a year they have Samba band assessment. Which means at various points throughout the day, 5 groups of 20+ students each, stand on the lawn outside your window pounding away on metal drums for 15 mins.

Ow my head.

Wednesday, 19 October 2016

After missing out in Edinburgh last year, I finally got to see the amazing 887 tonight. Robert Lepage is spellbinding.

Tuesday, 18 October 2016

Some days I'm really, really glad I only have to use about 25% of my brain capacity to do my job well. So much going on right now, I really couldn't deal with one which required more effort.

Monday, 17 October 2016

TV cabinets painted.
Check-in for next trimester's unit completed.
US receipts for tax sorted and entered.

Kicking all the goals today. And I might even get to bed just before midnight.

Sunday, 16 October 2016

This is Sunday.

Saturday, 15 October 2016

Considering what a shitshow the last three months has been, I think getting Distinctions for both my subjects this trimester is nothing to be sneezed at.

Friday, 14 October 2016

So proud of this year's theatre grads on their showcase today and so filled with gratitude at their hugs and thanks for my support of them throughout their three-year journey. They're the last group that I've been involved with since day one, so it's a bittersweet feeling.

Thursday, 13 October 2016

Fell asleep on the acupuncturist's table today. I never do that. Just goes to show how fatigued I am right now.

Wednesday, 12 October 2016

Matilda the Musical. Just as lovely the second time around... especially when you get freebies front-row centre of the dress circle!

Tuesday, 11 October 2016

It's 9.20pm. Do I curl up with my book or do I tackle the mountain of tax receipts I've been ignoring since August?

Monday, 10 October 2016

House is clean. Washing is done. Groceries are purchased. LB's house is on the market.

Small steps. Small steps.

Sunday, 9 October 2016

My favourite new gif...

Saturday, 8 October 2016

I could honestly just sleep for a week. And then some.

Friday, 7 October 2016

Sometimes, you see great theatre.

And then sometimes someone convinces you to see a show that starts off ok, but quickly goes downhill... and it's all in Mandarin and you have no idea what the hell is going on.

Thursday, 6 October 2016

Wednesday, 5 October 2016

Overslept the alarm by an hour... still made it to work on time. Winning. Kind of.

Tuesday, 4 October 2016

The next time I see my childhood home, it will more than likely belong to someone else. I'm surprisingly ok with that.

Monday, 3 October 2016

The friend who not only turns up with takeaway, wine and a sympathetic ear but also returns with her enormous 4WD and helps take a load to the tip is even better than the best kind. So much achieved today that I'm starting to see the light.

Sunday, 2 October 2016

So much to declutter, so little time.

Saturday, 1 October 2016

Friends who turn up on the doorstep with takeaway, wine and a sympathetic ear are the best kind.

Friday, 30 September 2016

Never underestimate the power of a puppy to lift your spirits after a truly awful week.

Thursday, 29 September 2016

Take the last two days' posts, multiply them by about 1,000 and it about sums up today.

Wednesday, 28 September 2016

When I said "this is going be a long, painful week"?

I may have underestimated just how painful.

Tuesday, 27 September 2016

This is going to be a long, painful week. SO. PAINFUL.

Monday, 26 September 2016

Stayed up until 3.30am, was up again at 8am, had to have a disco nap at 3pm, but had completed the exam by 7.30pm.

Sunday, 25 September 2016

Final essay submitted.

Cramming a trimester's worth of reading into a day so I can pass this exam. Thank god it's only worth 40% of my total mark.

Saturday, 24 September 2016

The Western Bulldogs (red, white and blue) just had an historic win over Greater Western Sydney (orange) to book a spot in the AFL Grand Final next week, where they will meet the Sydney Swans (red and white).

If the Doggies can beat Sydney, I am taking it as a sign that Hillary will beat Trump, come Nov 8.

Because, democratic blue, republican red, Trump is orange, etc.

Friday, 23 September 2016

Ridiculously proud of one of my students tonight... her determination to pitch, create and develop a solo show over the last 5 months is nothing short of inspirational. Her show is topical, funny, moving, and above all entertaining. I look forward to watching it (and her) take on the world stage.

Thursday, 22 September 2016

Four shows down, three to go... so far it's been a mixed bag, but kudos to my gorgeous students for putting their own work out there - it's a a brave, brave thing to devise a theatrical work from scratch.

Wednesday, 21 September 2016

This is how frazzled my brain is...

I am using Ikea as a point of reference in my essay on the evolution of the female detective in television crime drama.

This is either going to be genius, or a complete disaster.

Tuesday, 20 September 2016

Monday, 19 September 2016

See yesterday's post.

Times it by 10.

Repeat it for the next who-knows-how-freaking-long.

Sunday, 18 September 2016

Dealing with an elderly, cantankerous parent is karma for having been a pain-in-the-ass child, isn't it?

Saturday, 17 September 2016

Thank god for Uber Eats or I'd regularly starve...

Friday, 16 September 2016

Better than expected performance from the final year Music Theatre kids... although they could all do with having compulsory Alexander Technique classes to ensure they're not straining themselves.

Thursday, 15 September 2016

All day staff conference... fun, but tiring. So tiring, that dinner was mashed leftover veggies. Thank god I don't have to worry about feeding anyone but myself.

Wednesday, 14 September 2016

Life is too short to dawdle around... if everyone just did it my way, it would be done so much faster.

I hate compromise.

Tuesday, 13 September 2016

So much uni work to do and instead I do laundry. And answer endless phone calls requiring me to rehash the same information... I should just make a recording.

Monday, 12 September 2016

A long day of driving, then train-ing and I've finally arrived back in Melbs. Feel like I could sleep for a month.

Sunday, 11 September 2016

Successful weekend got me like:

Saturday, 10 September 2016

Me, this afternoon after we actually got LB to commit to selling the house:

Friday, 9 September 2016

A long day's driving and we're in Radders. Let's see how it all pans out.

Thursday, 8 September 2016

In Warrnambool, ready to drive to Radders tomorrow. Going to be a massive weekend...

Wednesday, 7 September 2016

Need to pack for tomorrow's trip to Radders.
Also need to write an essay.

Don't really need to be watching episodes of The Wire, but that's what's occurring.

Tuesday, 6 September 2016

Really getting into The Wire, which is required watching for one of my subjects. (So is The Sopranos, but for some reason that one just leaves me cold).

Monday, 5 September 2016

Feels weird not to be working Mondays anymore. On the upside, I now get a 4-day weekend. On the downside, I have to start spending those 4-day weekends commuting to Radders to deal with family stuff.

Sunday, 4 September 2016

Really haven't achieved much today either... googling how to make rugelach and buying crystals does not an essay write.

Saturday, 3 September 2016

Feeling contemplative after a session with a trusted friend. Five months. Good to know.

Friday, 2 September 2016

So many things to do today and all I achieved was some grocery shopping and laundry.

Oh well. Try again tomorrow.

Thursday, 1 September 2016

My shoulder and neck are going click-crazy after a cupping session this afternoon...

Wednesday, 31 August 2016

Feeling virtuous that I made it to 9.30pm before needing to go to bed.

Jetlag is a sonofabitch.

Tuesday, 30 August 2016

Back to (work) life, back to reality...

Monday, 29 August 2016

Can I push through my jetlag until at least 9pm so I don't wake up at a stupidly early hour tomorrow??

$1,000,000 question...

Sunday, 28 August 2016

As if it's not bad enough to have to come back to Australia, the universe mocks me with losing a whole day travelling back from the States and twists the knife by seating me next to a manspreading woman, who doesn't get the concept of personal space.

On the upside, the most adorable little girls befriended me in the departure lounge. Lola, who has cerebral palsy, and her little sister (who's name also starts with an L, but I couldn't quite understand what it was) had been to Disneyland and were showing off their Dory and Judy stuffed toy collection and telling me about their favourite rides (Dumbo was the big hit). Their visits throughout the flight made it a lot more bearable having to sit next to Mrs Personal Space Invader.

Saturday, 27 August 2016

About to end my US trip and jump on a long-haul flight to Melbs... despite home-dramas, I've managed to have an awesome time... and it really has reinforced my desire to return permanently. Since that's going to be unfeasible for a year or so at least, I'll just have to plan another trip sooner rather than later!

Friday, 26 August 2016

A sunny walk around the neighbourhood, some study time and dinner and drinks with the lovely Linaloo was an awesomely chilled way to spend my final (full) day in the US. Tomorrow starts the long journey back to chilly Melbs.

Thursday, 25 August 2016

Caught the train into San Fran today and wandered around - painted ladies, farmer's markets, strolling along the wharf area. The level of homelessness is quite distressing... so many mentally ill and homeless people who have set up camp on the main streets. Literally every block had at least 5 homeless people on it. Apparently it's illegal in San Fran to move a homeless person on - they can stay where they like for as long as they like. Which sounds to me like the city is throwing its hands in the air and avoiding the problem of finding these people a safe place to live. Such a shame.

Wednesday, 24 August 2016

So much to see at Stanford University campus (including a museum with almost as much Rodin as the Musee Rodin in Paris!).

Tuesday, 23 August 2016

Farewell NYC - you've been amazing as always.

Hello California! First time back (for more than a brief stopover) in over 20 years! What do you have in store for me?!

Monday, 22 August 2016

Bid farewell to the Ranstar this morning (after breakfast with her NY 'mom') and headed off to Strand for too much book purchasing (is there such a thing?!), followed by lunch with the ever-lovely Matt and a taping of Late Night Seth. A fab way to end my time in NYC.

Sunday, 21 August 2016

Bid farewell to Matt's lovely Brooklyn abode and checked ourselves into the Ace Hotel for our last night(s) in NYC. Then we headed off to Mable's in Brooklyn where I ate my weight in brisket and candied yams.

Saturday, 20 August 2016

Two show day - first a matinee of The Color Purple which was incredible. Cynthia Erivo blew me away. What a voice. What a talent.

Then it was off to the Lincoln Center for Oslo. Jennifer Ehle - again - amazing.

Friday, 19 August 2016

Look the expectations for On Your Feet - The Story of Emilio and Gloria Estefan were never going to be high, and that's ok. It was fun. And the lead guy was waaaaaaaaay hotter than Emilio actually is. Talk about casting yourself cute.

Thursday, 18 August 2016

Tonight's delightful surprise of a show - Waitress. Original cast, which means I got to see Jessie Mueller, who was awesome. The surprise standout though, was Jenna Ushkowitz, who I only knew as  Glee's Tina Cohen-Chang. Her knockout performance leads me to believe that Glee absolutely wasted her talent. Fools.

Wednesday, 17 August 2016

Highlight of the day: going to a taping of The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. Bucket list tick.

Poignant moment of the day: late night jazz at Dizzy's Club at the Lincoln Center on the eve of what would've been Dada's 80th birthday. He would've loved NYC.

Tuesday, 16 August 2016

If ever the hashtag blessed applied to my life, it's tonight. Seeing Hamilton a whole year after I first heard the cast recording and 8 months after I booked my ticket was life changing.

"Look around, look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now..."

Monday, 15 August 2016

Hidden rooftop bars which overlook the Empire State Building... goddamn but I love you, NYC. One day I'll live here. One day.

Sunday, 14 August 2016

Goodbye, PA... hello NYC.

Starting the new week off with a bit of Carole King on Broadway. ALL THE FEELS.

Saturday, 13 August 2016

The Crayola Factory was fun, but shopping at the mall with one of my oldest friends and her 11yo daughter was even more so.

Oh and there are two stores I'm not allowed into again for at least a year... Coach and Anthropologie. I have NO will-power at either of them.

Friday, 12 August 2016

A summer cold, courtesy of my friend's kids AND wicked sunburn on my shoulders and nose. Jersey Shore memories.

Thursday, 11 August 2016

Hooley Dooley.

Jersey Shore, you are an eye opener.

Wednesday, 10 August 2016

The bus from DC to Atlantic City is one of the most hilarious I have been on. A bunch of retirees heading off for a session on the slots... "but we ain't gamblers... we just likes to play the slots you see".

Tuesday, 9 August 2016

Wandering the monuments of DC is still one of my most favourite things to do, even 20 years later.

Monday, 8 August 2016

OK well that's my clothes shopping done for the next year... almost US$700 at Anthropologie. Yoiks. Also, Georgetown, I've missed you.

Sunday, 7 August 2016

Well 14th north of M has certainly changed since I was last here. From prostitutes and drug addicts to  almost total gentrification... and some very cool bars.

Saturday, 6 August 2016

Lincoln Memorial - check
Washington Monument - check
Capitol Building - check
Folger Shakespeare Library - included reading room tour which only occurs once a week and only accepts 15 participants - check
Anthropologie - check

Distance walked - 13.5km

Feet still working? Not quite.

Friday, 5 August 2016

The gods may have tried to conspire against me getting on that plane, but once I did, they decided to cooperate. Through customs and immigration at LAX in under 10 mins and a hassle free ride into DC passing by my old haunts along the way. Thank you for your cooperation, gods of chance.

Thursday, 4 August 2016

Well this is becoming a bit of a day... and not in a good way. When my family decide to throw some shit at the fan, they THROW A FREAKING TRUCKLOAD.

Tuesday, 2 August 2016

Monday, 1 August 2016

I can sleep on the plane on Friday, right?

Sunday, 31 July 2016

Sunday study session hijacked by my crazy family and their myriad issues. Sigh.

Saturday, 30 July 2016

First of two assignments due before I go on holidays submitted.

Now, what are the chances I can now read Titus Andronicus, find secondary sources and bash out a 3,000 word essay in the next 20 hours?

Thursday, 28 July 2016

Fairly certain that substituting a slice of hedgehog for a cup of coffee was not what my acupuncturist had in mind when she said I needed to cut my caffeine intake.

Wednesday, 27 July 2016

Awake at 1am. Tossed and turned until 4am. Fell asleep until 10am. Spent most of the day live-streaming the DNC, didn't start on uni work until about 5pm. Now it's nearly midnight and I'm on a roll, but I have an early meeting in the morning so I really should go to bed.

Ugh. Why am I so disorganised?

Tuesday, 26 July 2016

Emergency acupuncture appointment has left me feeling too wiped to do anything but go to bed before 9pm. I'm going to regret this when I'm wide awake at 3am, I just know it.

Monday, 25 July 2016

Zero motivation to do any uni work tonight... not ideal when I have two assignments to hand in before I leave for the USA (in ten days!).

Sunday, 24 July 2016

Have not left the house all weekend.

I mean, I know it's cold and I know I have a lot to get done for uni before I go on holidays in a couple of weeks, but really. I need to stop being a hermit.

Saturday, 23 July 2016

So, I'm not thrilled with Hillary's pick for VP, mainly because I'm thinking 8 years ahead when he's the presumptive nominee and, hey, we're back to an old, white guy running the show... but I'll come around.

I just really, really wish she'd been able to pick Cory Booker, but he's needed in the Senate (because if he left to run for VP, Chris Christie would be able to pick his replacement and god forbid anyone lets that Republican moron pick even a karaoke song.

Friday, 22 July 2016

It's all very well to say "don't surround yourself with negative people" but when they're your immediate family, it's bloody difficult to put into practice.

Thursday, 21 July 2016

It's totally ok to come home and veg in front of the TV watching Law & Order SVU because I'm studying the female detective genre for my TV Studies subject and Mariska Hargitay is a BOSS.

Wednesday, 20 July 2016

Further proof that Laura Benanti is a queen who deserves ALL THE AWARDS.

Goddamned national treasure.

Tuesday, 19 July 2016

Oh the hilarity that was Day 1 of the GOP convention. Charles in Charge and the bare-chested dude from Janet Jackson's 'Love Will Never Do Without You' video were guest speakers (is there a list lower than Z?!); and Melania plagiarised Michelle O's speech from 2008. Oh and then Donald flat out plagiarised Barack Obama's tweet from 2012 in praising her.

Crying with laughter. Crying I tell you.

Monday, 18 July 2016

So much crap going on in the world right now... negativity abounds (both close to home and in the world at large).

I'm just going to stay in the bubble of awesomeness that is the new Ghostbusters film for a while.

Sunday, 17 July 2016

Finished my quiz early so treated myself to the new Ghostbusters film

I wish there'd been characters like Jillian Holtzmann when I was a kid. THE. BEST.

Saturday, 16 July 2016

Really, universe? A cold? When I have a quiz on Monday to study for and two assignments to write before I go on holiday in 2.5 weeks?

Friday, 15 July 2016

Hurrah for my magician accountant.

He is a magic magician of the most magical kind.

(It's tax time)

Thursday, 14 July 2016

State Library of Victoria all lit up for Bastille Day.

I've had a craving for nutella crepes all day, but I'm trying to resist cos I need to lose some weight.

Wednesday, 13 July 2016

This current trend for 'harem' style (read: dropped crotch) pants is annoying me. No one wants to look like a they're wearing a diaper, do they?

Tuesday, 12 July 2016

Note to self: get to work conferences a little earlier so you don't end up having to sit at the table nearest the front... the struggle to stay awake and focussed on the speakers nearly killed me.

Monday, 11 July 2016

Mondays I'm always knackered. Is it because I have Fridays off (and therefore a long weekend every weekend)?  I mean honestly, this is me right now and it's not even 8pm.

Sunday, 10 July 2016

Today was the final performance for Lin-Manuel Miranda, Phillipa Soo,  Leslie Odom Jr and Ariana DeBose in Hamilton, which is my favourite ever musical even though I haven't seen it yet*.

Rory O'Malley's face in the background (second from left) is basically me watching their final curtain call, knowing: (a) I will never get to see all the original cast; and (b) listening to the band strike up The West Wing theme in Lin's honour (because he's a huge wingnut, like me).

* I say 'yet' because in just over a month I'll be in NYC and I have my ticket to see it! Even though the three leads have departed, I'm super excited to see Rory again (I saw him in Book of Mormon in 2011), as well as Daveed Diggs**, who I have long been a fan of ("it's clipping., bitch.").

** Update, 15 July. Daveed Diggs abruptly left the show this week, so I won't be seeing him either. BOOO. But oh well. I'm lucky enough to be seeing the show - WHAT MORE CAN I ASK FOR?!

Saturday, 9 July 2016

Clean house.

No study done, but clean house. And groceries bought. And laundry done... so there's that.

Friday, 8 July 2016

OK, so I'm totally in love with the Nordic crime genre after binging on The Bridge.

Thursday, 7 July 2016

It's a sad day when 4 glasses of red wine + no dinner = maggoted.

(Stupidly drunk. I am so old. And lame.)

Wednesday, 6 July 2016

My day. All day.

(It's totally legit though, it's for one of my uni classes).

Tuesday, 5 July 2016

Barely at my desk all day... meetings, training sessions... oh and getting my makeup done for a photo shoot.

Not your average working day.

Monday, 4 July 2016

Here's what I don't get about Titus Andronicus...*

If they cut out Lavinia's tongue and cut off her hands and left her in the woods, then surely she would have bled to death. It's not like they had medivac.

* this week's set text for my Shakespeare subject

Sunday, 3 July 2016

Slowly wading my way through the first week's worth of lectures and readings... and I thought this was going to be an 'easy trimester'.

Uh, no.

Saturday, 2 July 2016

Voted, then had a democracy sausage.

Came home, was doing some gardening when my neighbour and her kids came out and said they were going to vote and have democracy sausages.

So I went with them and had another one.

Democracy rocks.

Friday, 1 July 2016

About the only things I've achieved today are collecting a package from the post office (4 text books, two of which I need to read over the weekend) and spend too much money at Mecca Cosmetica, because I have to have my headshot taken at work next week and I need makeup, so I don't look like an old hag.

Thursday, 30 June 2016

Feeling utterly knackered after a session of acupuncture... but have so much reading still to do that I'll probably lie awake stressing about it.

Wednesday, 29 June 2016

Today is the London premiere of the Ab Fab movie.

It is also the birthday of Bestie Ems (aka Edina).

Tuesday, 28 June 2016

I have filed, shredded and re-organised... my work email inbox is empty.

They'd better come up with my new job description soon or I'm going to die of boredom.

Monday, 27 June 2016

So much reading.

(Yep, uni has started back this week)

Sunday, 26 June 2016

Listening to my mother bang on about the minutiae of fixing her guttering is beyond tedious. Let's just sell the freaking house already.

Saturday, 25 June 2016

Trying to work out how much nerdy, fun-only-to-me stuff I can cram in to my trip to DC on the two days before my partners in crime arrive. Because not everyone thinks touring the reading room at the Folger Shakespeare Library is fun...

Friday, 24 June 2016

The UK has voted to leave the EU.

Wowzers. History changing before our very eyes... and not in a good way.

Thursday, 23 June 2016

Winter has well and truly arrived with a vengeance...
