Having House of Cards withdrawals... and I've only just finished watching the final ep. Now to start on Scandal.*
*Yes, I'm a political/DC junkie.

Thought for the day:
"If all we ever do is listen to a choir of our own choosing, it's easy to become convinced that our opinions are the norm and that all other thought is misguided, or marginal."

A call about a potential new job, treats from the LB team, a total fan-girl moment when Idina Menzel came to box office and finally arriving home to some free makeup samples... it's the little moments that make a day awesome.

First world problem:
Feeling exhausted and just want to collapse into bed.
Remembered that I washed the sheets today and so need to make the bed before I can do so.
Sigh.

What a day in the political sphere. Wendy Davis commences a 13 hour filibuster against SB5 causing the GOP to pull all kinds of cheating stunts to try and stop her; then the misogynistic men of Australian politics finally succeed in removing a woman from the leadership who did more for our country than our right-wing-Murdoch-influenced media would have you know.
I need alcohol.

A fabulous evening at the ACO... the only problem is, I come out of there wanting to download the music immediately, only to find some of it has never been recorded! First world problems...

To the people who invented Viber, I thank you for allowing an hour and a half's phone conversation with a lovely London-based friend I've not spoken to in ages, to cost us nothing!*
*Well, I'm sure it uses up some of my download limit, but since that's over 100GB a month, it's unlikely to be that much.

Once upon a time, Fridays in the office were about long, boozy lunches and winding down for the weekend from 4pm with a glass of wine at the desk. When did they suddenly turn into work-your-ass-off-all-day-don't-get-a-lunch-break-call-it-quits-at-6.30pm-without-even-making-it-through-a-quarter-of-the-must-do-list?

Coffee dates + Monsters University with a bestie + phone calls from awesome faraway friends + ACMI's Hollywood Costume exhibition with two other besties + cocktails and wine with a bunch more excellent peeps = A MOST EXCELLENT BIRTHDAY.

I wonder what this country is coming to sometimes. I mean, all props to Lt Gen Morrison for standing up on behalf of women. But if our PM stands up for herself (and the rest of the sisterhood)? She's smacked down like a child. It's wrong. And it has to stop.*
*If that muppet Tony Abbott is elected come September, I am moving to Sweden.

It's amazing what a looming deadline can do for your motivation levels when it comes to doing really, really dull tasks like writing your own job description for a job you've been doing for over two years. (Because apparently, it's not HR's job to do it, unlike back in my HR days when all I seemed to ever do was write job descriptions.)

Fondue followed by gin & tonic sorbet. Perfect Sunday night supper.

Things that bug me that probably shouldn't #9271: Not bothering to check the correct spelling of a name.
It's bad enough when people misspell my name (it's 'i', not 'y'); but if you're going to rave on Facebook about how awesome Jesus Christ Superstar was and single out the performances of "Pilot" and 'Kyaphas', then it's going to bug me that you didn't bother to even look in the program to see that it's 'Pilate' and 'Caiaphas'.

Being offered a free ticket to see Jesus Christ Superstar (with Tim Minchin, Mel C and Jon Stevens) is awesome enough; but arriving to find out it's a front row ticket on the section nearest to the side of the stage? Well that's BEYOND.
(Also, Jon Stevens is still sexy as hell with a voice like silk.)

Reminded so often of late to count my blessings... and there are many of them to be counted.

Nothing like being lulled into the idea that you have a night off, only to discover that because of a screw up from head office you have to work twelve hours straight. Grrrr.
Tuesday, 11 June 2013
Yesterday's public holiday negated somewhat by having to work today - a day I don't normally work. Sigh.

I wish all awards shows were like the Tonys. For a show honouring live theatre, they make a better job at a TV broadcast than those in the film and tv industry...

Rearranged the entire living room whilst listening to Triple J's Hottest 100 of the last 20 Years. Now have a lamb roast in the oven whilst I'm sipping a G&T and munching on blue cheese. Simple Sundays are often the best.

The Place Beyond the Pines. Highly unsettling. Definitely not the type of movie I was expecting given the cast list.
Friday, 7 June 2013
Watching American Beauty for the first time since it was released. Still as engrossing as I remember it.
Thursday, 6 June 2013
Hey! How did it get to be 8pm? I haven't done even half of the things on my to-do list for the day.
Grrr.
Grrr.

Working nights isn't nearly so bad when you spend it catching up with two of your favourite colleagues, one of whom has just returned from Eurovision and has TALES TO TELL.
Tuesday, 4 June 2013
A free ticket to see a show I had real reservations about seeing is always a bit of a gamble, but I'm glad I braved the chilly night air and went and saw Flowerchildren: The Mamas & The Papas Story. It was pretty much a carbon copy of the Jersey Boys jukebox musical format, but I enjoyed it nonetheless and it reminded me of how much I love M&P's harmonies. Gorgeous.

Woke up at 8am. Thought to myself: "that's a bit early - I'll just snooze for another hour".
Woke up again at 2.30. PM.
Being sick has made this a totally wasted weekend. Grrrrr.

Third cold (or is it fourth?) this year. For someone who rarely gets sick, this is pissing me off no end.
