Yay for friends returning from the States with goodies. Necessary goodies.

Dinner with an old mate from my London days... fourteen years is a long time between drinks, but neither of us appears to have changed much. Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

The most misogynistic song of 2013 (which I won't even bother linking to because I loathe it so much) failed to even rate in Triple J's Hottest 100.  I am happy as a clam.

I think I'm becoming a (herbal) tea addict... current number of teas in my cupboard currently standing at fourteen.

Best episode of Parks and Rec for weeks. Haven't laughed so hard in AGES.

I love a good cliffhanger. Gets my imagination working overtime. Tonight's 'OMG-are-they-really-going-to?' provided by The Mindy Project was no exception.

Thinking of starting a new movie review show... starring my mother. Her scathing criticism on the casting choices of the various presidents in The Butler was hysterical. Apparently vagrants on the street would've been a better choice for LBJ than Liev Schreiber and the boy who sold her the ticket at the cinema box office looked more like JFK than James Marsden.

Oprah on the other hand... well. You couldn't shut LB up about how amazing she was.

Was actually excited to be returning to work today.

That's a novelty I haven't felt in a LONG time.

Last day of staycation. That five weeks went by pretty quick... and I got bugger-all on the to-do list achieved! At least I have a nice tan...

Had no intention of buying ANYTHING today, yet somehow ended up with a new bike pump (50% off though, which was pretty good); a new pair of khakis for work (75% off - even better); and a new pair of glasses (completely covered by my health insurance, so cost me NADA!!).

Just as well I've picked up a little bit of extra work with the PNG peeps...

In honour of Reuben Kincaid, tonight's dinner was a West Coast Reuben sandwich at Yellow Bird in Prahran.

De-friggin-licious!! 

Sometimes, the little things that don't work in a play don't matter in the overall scheme of things. Sometimes they do. Tonight's play? Well, the jury's still out.

Too hot to do ANYTHING today except stay indoors with the fan, some ice and the latest eps of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Mom, Trophy Wife and The Mindy Project. Oh and a little Masters of Sex for some, you know, variety.

Ugh, Melbourne. Just... UGH.

The annual tradition of fajitas and Golden Globes watching with the SFAM* continues... and what fun we had.  I did apparently cause Andy Samberg to win best actor in a comedy after uttering (more or less) the following (as they were announcing):

"I still don't understand why HE'S nominated. But hey, wouldn't it be funny if he actually won? The other nominees are waaaaay more worthy - I can only imagine how pissed... OH. SHIT. Did they just say 'Andy Samberg'?!?!  Faaaarrrrrkkkkk.  Don Cheadle's gonna be ANGRY."

If only the same tactic had worked with Best Actress in a Motion Picture. I love Cate, but it should've been Emma.

Home, slightly exhausted, in need of food and sleep after 4 full-on days in Auckland.

But first... Parks & Rec's 100th episode MUST be watched!

I have a new standard for all future weddings I may be invited to (based on today's fabulous do):

1.  The walk back down the aisle at the end of the ceremony must be a choreographed dance routine incorporating the entire wedding party (today's was to Beyonce's 'Single Ladies', but any appropriately catchy number will do).

2.  Canapes at the reception must be served by drag queens.

3.  Said drag queens must then return to perform at the conclusion of the speeches.

I will accept nothing less.  Please and thank you.

Auckland is a lovely city, it really is. But by god is it expensive! $25 for a chicken salad at a pub?! Bonkers.

So the bucks' (yes, plural - two blokes) night ended up with us all doing karaoke at a gay bar called Poof, which is just down the road from a restaurant named Snatch.

Oh how that tickled me.

Alarm set for 4am... UGH.

4 days without the TCM and my skin's protesting... just as well the delivery arrived today before I head off o/s.

So many treats today... coffee and art-creation at the NGV with the lovely KJG, followed by arriving home to treats in the mail (a brilliant thank you card from Pete W) and the most thoughtful Christmas gift from the lovely Debs in the UK.

Up at sparrow's to have farewell breakfast with friends returning to Sydney... so of course a midday nap was in order.

You know when you watch a movie and think (despite the fashion): "oh that's not that old - I remember loving that movie when it came out"; then you IMDB it and realise it was actually released 20 years ago and you have a minor conniption wondering where the hell the time's gone?  Speed is that movie for me.  What's worse is that this year, Keanu and Sandra both turn fifty.

FIFTY!!!

Bonkers.

Now I'm feeling my age.

Damn but I have incredibly generous friends.  This arrived in the mail today from my Blizzard of '96 partner in crime as a Christmas/thank you present for helping her daughter with a school project.

Sweet baby jebus. That there is one mighty pretty papaya and tan Coach.  I am a very lucky girl.

 

And so begins a new year... the fourth year of this blog. Well, technically the third full year, but even so. One line a day for two full and one half years and every indication that I'll reach the five year goal. Not too shabby really!
