Rats in the wall isn't nice at all. We had one in our food cellar a couple of years ago and that one did have a sweet tooth for sure as it ate 3 big boxes of chocolate (which we got for Christmas and never had the chance to taste as the rat sure wasn't much for sharing...) in one night. I hope you won't have any more trouble with rats my dear and can sleep tight at night.
